The League of Women Voters of Louisville (LWVL), founded on November 26, 1920, encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government, works to increase understanding of major policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy. The League of Women Voters of Louisville Office is open Monday - Thursday (12 noon - 5 p.m.). Those entering the Lang House must follow the COVID-19 Guidelines including wearing a mask. Virtual Book Discussion

Our first book discussion of the year will be held on Wednesday, September 16, 2020 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. This discussion is open to the general public; however, we do request that you and others who may be interested in attending RSVP by sending an email to <lwvlouisville [at] gmail.com> Indicating your desire to attend. Upon receipt of your request, we will forward a zoom link to your email address.The two books to be discussed are:

Klein, E. (2020). Why we're polarized? New York: Avid Reader Press.

Myers, V. (2013). What if I say the wrong thing? Chicago: American Bar Association.

Virtual New Member Orientation: "Coffee and Conversation"

The Membership Committee chaired by Andrea Caldwell has been working laboriously preparing for the New Member Orientation which for the first time will be held virtually using ZOOM on September 26, 2020 at 11 a.m. For those of you who are new to the League, please mark your calendars and be on the lookout for additional information which will be sent out shortly it sounds like it is going to be informative, but also fun at the same time. It will provide am opportunity for you to learn more about the League while networking with current amd new members. We look forward to having you join us for "Coffee and Conversation" as we comntinue ZOOMING away.

Virtual Education Town Hall

The League of Women Voters of Louisville will host a Virtual Town Hall Meeting on October 12, 2020 (6:30 p.m.- 8:00 p.m.) entitled "JCPS and Your Taxes: Where Does This Money Come From? And Where Doews It Go? Panelists will include: Dr. Marty Pollio, Superintendent of Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS); Cordelia Hardin, JCPS Chief Financial Officer amd Diane Porter, Chair, JCPS Board of Education. This event is an alternate version of our "Dinner and Democracy" Forum, but instead will be held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. Stephon Dingle with WLKY TV will be our moderator. Please note this town hall is opem to the public; therefore, it is recommended that you register early by emailing the League at lwvlouisville @gmail.com. You may also submit questions for our panelists using this email address.

Election Day (Get Out the Vote)---November 3, 2020

LWVL 100th Anniversary Celebration

The League of Women Voters of Louisville will host a Virtual 100th Anniversary Celebration on November 12, 2020.  Our guest speaker will be Dr. Carolyn Jefferson-Jenkins, the first African American President of the national League of Women Voters. The moderator will be Rachel Platt, Frazier History Museum.

Author Forum/Book Discussion

The book discussion for November will be in the form of an Author Forum. Dr. Carolyn Jefferson-Jenkins will be available at a separate event for those attending the 100th Anniversary Celebration to discuss her book entitled "The Untold Story of Women of Color in the League of Women Voters". This book is available through Amazon, but we are working with Carmichael Bookstore to have it available here locally as well.
